I Love Ugly x Onitsuka Tiger: Release Party 2017
Thursday, 16th of March 2017 is proudly marked on our calendars here at I Love Ugly. It’s a date that recognises the launched sneaker collaboration between I Love Ugly and Onitsuka Tiger. A launch first of it’s kind for both brands in Australasia, as Onitsuka Tiger has only collaborated previously with brands based across the Northern Hemisphere.
Inspired by the diverse terrain of New Zealand, it’s was nearly a two-year process curating the North-South “Colorado Eighty-Five Mt Samsara” sneaker pack.
The darker canvas Colorado 85 Mt Samsara sneaker pays homage to some of the visually astounding rock formations of the South Island. The deconstructed silhouette is constructed from black full grain tumbled leather, adversely similar to the weathered rock southern landmarks. Dense native greenery encapsulates the Island, a direct inspiration towards the green speckle and stitching accents. The lighter canvas Colorado 85 Mt Samsara sneaker aligns with the vibrant environment of the North Island. Active volcanic thermal areas are sporadically sprawled across the island terrain, a contrasting beauty compared with the harmonic South. The North also comprises of island sanctuaries immersed through riddled landscapes and rugged West Coast beaches. Grey accents and red cross-stitched visually reference the fiery nature of the North.
The event release took place at Greenleaf Organics in Auckland City, New Zealand. Not only was the vast white concrete space idyllic for an event, the food here aligns perfectly with our healthy food lifestyle choices. Clean food = clean mind. It’s top of the list for our go-to lunch spots in Auckland City.
Big thanks to our fellow New Zealand businesses who sponsored the event; Stolen Rum, Sawmill Brewery and The Organic Mechanic. Not to mention our appreciation for the loyal I Love Ugly community that made it a great night.
